Funerals

A funeral at Christ Church Cathedral is always conducted with dignity and respect.

A funeral at Christ Church Cathedral is always conducted with dignity and respect.

Christ Church Cathedral is available to those of all faiths or no faith for funerals and memorial services. If you wish us to help plan or officiate at the service our clergy are available to you. However, you may arrange to have another member of the clergy you know lead the service.

When planning a funeral there are forms provided for in A Prayer Book for Australia and the Book of Common Prayer. It is important, however, and entirely possible to craft a service that fits with the individual circumstances of each death.

The Cathedral Memorial Garden

Adjacent to the Cathedral is an enclosed Memorial Garden set aside for the interment of the ashes of deceased parishioners and other residents of Darwin. Interments are conducted according to the rites of the Anglican Church of Australia, and the ashes placed directly into the earth in a degradable container. Ashes, once interred in the garden, will not be disturbed. They will remain in the ground permanently. Interments are recorded in a memorial book.

The garden provides a quiet place for reflection and contemplation amidst the noise and busyness of the city.
