From all of us at the Cathedral, best wishes for a safe and peaceful New Year and thanks for your on-going support and interest.
We have a busy year ahead with plenty of things happening, especially as we grow our relationship with the Darwin Festival and begin the programme of repairs and renovations to the Cathedral buildings.
Our online calendar has been updated so please check it regularly to keep up with what’s happening. CLICK HERE
Don’t forget that during January, the 7.30am service of Holy Communion on Sunday mornings is in recess.
A-J Levine, who happens to be an orthodox Jew, serves as Professor of New Testament at Vanderbilt University. In this clip from “Saving Jesus” (one of the series of study from Living the Questions) Levine notes that divine births were a dime a dozen.
Check back soon to find all our Christmas service times and other things happening at the Cathedral as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Nicole Anderson is ordained deacon at Christ Church Cathedral
Send down the Holy Spirit upon your servant Nicole, whom we set apart by the laying on of our hands, for the office and work of a deacon in your Church. Take authority to exercise the office and ministry of a deacon in the Church of God,in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
In a wonderful celebration, at the Cathedral on Monday night, Nicole Anderson was ordained Deacon in the presence of her family and friends, the clergy of the diocese and parishioners from both Fred’s Pass and the Cathedral congregations.
Bishop Kay Goldsworthy, one of Australia’s first women Bishops, had led Nicole’s pre-ordination retreat and then preached at the service. She talked about the role of the Deacon as that of a bridge and a bridge-builder.
Nicole will continue her work at the Cathedral, where she is much loved and valued.
Bishop Kay and Nicole with the Women Clergy of the Diocese
The Festival of Christ the King was celebrated with great joy at the Cathedral last Sunday. With exquisite music from Darwin based wind quintet, “Quintessential” and our organist Digby Barrow and a sermon from Lee Levett-Olson (pictured right) that both challenged and inspired, the Cathedral community celebrated all that is good about being part of this place. After the service we gathered in the Harbour Room for a celebratory chicken and champagne brunch, while the children burnt up excess energy on the bouncy castle.
