The second week of Lent

lent study002Remember us, O God of the covenant. Your presence fills us with wonder and awe, your word gives us unshakable hope. Fix in our hearts the image of your Son in glory. Sustain us on the way of discipleship, so that travelling the path of your Son, we may pass over with him to newness of life. Enable us to be transformed, so that our lives speak of you to the world. Grant this through Christ, our deliverance and hope. Amen.

(The prayer of the week from our Lenten Study material – Catholic Ed. Brisbane Diocese)

We are meeting at 10.00am on Tuesdays and 7.30pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Phyllis Tickle – Beyond Denominations…

If scholars are right—or even in the ballpark– by 2050, emergence Christianity will be the largest group among church cultures, says Phyllis Tickle in an interview with ThinkFwd host, Spencer Burke. That means larger than any particular denomination, and this change is occurring fast. Phyllis says she became aware of the “emergence church” only about two years ago, and the phenomena of emergence-, emergent-, emerging-church has only been around about four years. But Tickle believes that traditional churches have only about 18 months before the window of opportunity to reach out to emergence churches changes into a door of urgent, mandatory response to the changing paradigm of church as we know it.

Jackie Pearse was commissioned for her work as the new Registrar for the Diocese of the Northern Territory during the service of holy communion at the Cathedral on Sunday morning.

Recognising the gifts you have to offer, the Diocese of the Northern Territory has appointed you as someone in whom we can put our confidence and trust. We have called you to share in the leadership and ministry of our church.

Will you welcome the work for which you have been chosen, and with God’s help, serve this community with energy, intelligence, imagination and love?

Welcome to the Diocese, Jackie, you have our support, encouragement and prayer.

A Cathedral Strategic Plan

cathedral-logo-live-shareAt its 2009 Synod, the Diocese of the Northern Territory adopted a strategic plan to give focus to the mission of the Diocese and direction for the next 5 years. The plan is built around the two defining statements about the Diocese – its Mission and its Vision.

The Diocesan Mission: To live as the people of Christ through worship, caring for each other, sharing our faith, working for justice and engaging the wider community.

The Diocesan Vision: We will be a welcoming community of Christ celebrating our faith, engaging creatively in renewing and growing our church and actively working for social and environmental justice for all.

An important part of the planning process is for each parish in the Diocese to develop its own plan using a template, provided by the Diocese, that uses the strategy areas and goals adopted by the Synod. The Cathedral Council has spent time over the past several months thinking about how we might respond and have completed a first draft of the template for the Cathedral. You can download the document here.

Please read through the document and feel free to make any comments, using the facility on this page or by email

There will be a chance to discuss the document over morning tea on Sunday 7th and 28th of February, before we adopt a version of it at our AGM.
