Sadly, yet another mass killing. And it seems that we are becoming anaesthetised to the stream of hatred and killings that weekly fill our news media. The epistle reading this Sunday 19 June tells us that "there is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus" (Galatians 3.28). Acts of hatred like this go clearly against the message of the epistle, and the broader message of the Gospel: for we are all one. In particular, we reject homophobia in particular, and all acts of violence based on hatred in general.
So, all are welcome at our service this Sunday 19 June 2016 at 9.00 am, where we will pray for the victims of Orlando, and the victims of hate crime in general. We commend the souls of the dead to Christ, and we pray for those who mourn. We also pray for those trapped in hatred and those who commit such crimes: we pray that they will open themselves to God, who is love and whose love knows no bounds.
