A Cathedral Strategic Plan
At its 2009 Synod, the Diocese of the Northern Territory adopted a strategic plan to give focus to the mission of the Diocese and direction for the next 5 years. The plan is built around the two defining statements about the Diocese – its Mission and its Vision.
The Diocesan Mission: To live as the people of Christ through worship, caring for each other, sharing our faith, working for justice and engaging the wider community.
The Diocesan Vision: We will be a welcoming community of Christ celebrating our faith, engaging creatively in renewing and growing our church and actively working for social and environmental justice for all.
An important part of the planning process is for each parish in the Diocese to develop its own plan using a template, provided by the Diocese, that uses the strategy areas and goals adopted by the Synod. The Cathedral Council has spent time over the past several months thinking about how we might respond and have completed a first draft of the template for the Cathedral. You can download the document here.
Please read through the document and feel free to make any comments, using the facility on this page or by email
There will be a chance to discuss the document over morning tea on Sunday 7th and 28th of February, before we adopt a version of it at our AGM.

An ambitious plan – leave room for lunch! Not at all happy with giving handouts to those who choose to live (and evacuate) on the streets and spend their money on grog.

Thanks Garry. The issue “handouts” is always a difficult one, as is the language of “choice” when it comes to conversations about how people spend their money – I’m not sure that it is ever as simple as that. Mother Teresa described the poor as “Christ in distressing disguise” – I spend a lot of time reflecting on my anger, impatience, disgust around these issues in the light of Mother Teresa’s suggestion.

I’m glad you’ve retained your Pastoral Statement (contained within your Strategic Plan). Perhaps your Vision, Mission and Pastoral Statement need to be included under the section “About Us” for ease of reference?

Thanks Sharon. The Strategic Plan document will be presented to the AGM on 7 March: once it is adopted we will look at how we can include it (or a summary) more clearly on our website. The pastoral statement continues to be important for us – hopefully the Strategic plan document will help us determine how well we manage to live out the implications of the pastoral statement.
