Ministry with Children at Christ Church Cathedral
Children are an important part of the Cathedral congregation: they bring unique gifts of wonder, excitement and creativity that have often been lost or forgotten by those of us who have been coming to worship for many years. Children worship with each new discovery in their lives. Reverence, adoration, respect, love, awe and praise come naturally to children.
While we cannot always address all the needs of children in our corporate worship, there is much we can do to make childrens’ experience richer and more meaningful. Some of the ways we try and do this already at the Cathedral include having a children’s story or message before the readings, providing activities for children to do during the sermon time and including them in our welcome to holy communion.
Next Sunday (September 6) we will gather parents together for a brief meeting after our 9.00am service to discuss how we can do better in our ministry with children and their parents, so that all might feel able to participate fully in the worship, witness and service of the commuity of faith at Christ Church Cathedral.
We hope you will join us.
