Christ Church Cathedral by Night

Night over Huancayo
(In the Plaza de Arms)
One can see
Shadows lurking, along the streets…
A casual stroll, by old folks,
People drifting aimlessly
Noticeable-
(to and fro)) back and forth
in the Plaza de Arms)).
People sitting on benches
Talking in low and high tones
Enjoying the warmth of others
Passing-.
Streets, making unintelligible
Sounds….
Young slim girls forever
Fluttering about, keeping, trying
to keep: it all in place.
As I walk about, I gaze at:
Buildings all about-car lights
In and out of darkness;
Water gushing from the fountains-,
Oderless foliage growing;
Solemnly the clock on the church
Steeple, stares-(never strikes)
Stares at me, at us, our bland faces below.
Night has come over the City
Huancayo; across the Plaza de Arms:
Scraps of light, reflect back and forth
Gives the Cathedral, a holy glow
(It’s night over Huancayo).
