It is finished…

Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together under one place; let the waters bring abundantly the moving creature that has life. Genesis 1

After many years the new Cyclone Tracy Memorial Window in Christ Church Cathedral has been completed and will be commissioned during a short ceremony on Friday 12 June at 5.30pm.

A memorial to seven fishermen lost at sea during Cyclone Tracy, the original window deteriorated beyond repair in Darwin’s harsh climate. Melbourne-based artists and designers Janusz and Magdalena Kuzbicki consulted with the original designer George Chaloupka to modify the design in keeping with the original and allowing for contemporary techniques that will ensure the new window lasts longer than the first.

All are welcome to attend the commissioning or to visit the Cathedral, which is open daily, to see the new window.

Sorry this is such a late entry to the site.

I really enjoyed the commissioning ceremony in June this year for the window… It was great to meet the original artist George Chaloupka there and to learn about his deep passion for the visual arts and religous ideas.
